ZYYX pro Firmware Update Instructions
Here are the steps to update your ZYYX pro’s firmware to the latest version. If you see a step that does not make sense or does not seem to work on your printer, please contact us and we’ll help you!
Please double check your firmware version before continueing. There is no need to update the same firmware. You can see your firmware on your zyyx pro by going to Utilites>Version Information.
Step 1
Please download and unzip these files. These are all of the files you will need to update.

If you have not done so already, please be sure to install the serial port drivers to the computer as per the instructions in the USB Connection Instructions PDF file. (Please note that the Windows 8 instructions must be followed for later Windows versions as well. If you are running Windows 8.1 or later, please follow the additional Windows 8 instructions starting just after Step 4. When installing, please note that connection can occur even if some drivers fail. As long as not all drivers fail, please proceed with the connection.)
Step 3
The printer can now be connected to the computer via the provided usb cable.
Double click on the ZYYX Firmware Update application. If the COM port does not automatically appear, click Refresh. Click Browse and select the rZP21 hex file that you previously downloaded.
Click Update ZYYX Firmware.
Step 4
You should now see a new pop-up box. This is where the process becomes tricky, and can vary for everyone. We will give you the method that works best for us.
Because the pop-up box is the primary application running on the computer, you do not need to click on Update Firmware, but can simply press enter on your keyboard. This is quite important, as the timing between the release of the reset button on the side of the printer and the start of the firmware update must be fairly precise.
You must release the reset button roughly half a second before starting the update. Thus, our method is to hold down the reset button whilst getting the other hand ready to press enter on the computer. Then, I release the reset button and, with barely a pause in between, press enter.
If the time between releasing the reset button and pressing enter (or clicking on Update Firmware) is too long, the program will simply time out. Similarly, the process will fail if you click Update Firmware while still holding the reset button or at the exact same moment as you release the reset button. It’s a quick one-two motion, but it must be done in the two steps of “release, then click”.
Step 5
If all goes well, you should see the command prompt with avrdude running. The prompt will tell you when the process is finished and ask you to press any key to continue.
Step 6
After updating, please remember to reset the printer’s settings as per the PDF instructions.
Please let me know if something in this process does not seem to work. Remeber, if you think the timing is difficult to pin down, It often takes us 2-3 tries to get it right, but if you’ve tried more than 7 times or so without any luck, please let us know.
Once the printer is updated and the settings have been restored, you should see rZP21 listed under Utilites>Version Information.
